Welcome to The Sheffield Society of Aeromodellers

Welcome to the website of the Sheffield Society of Aeromodellers (SSA). We are a large group of aeromodellers mainly from the Sheffield UK area with many model flying interests – including slope soaring, indoor rc aircraft, electric powered rc airplanes, rc helicopters, control line and free flight including F1E Magnet.

The club has a number of slope soaring sites and electric flying fields in and around the Sheffield area. There are also club meetings including model shows, swap meets/auctions, meals and demonstrations.

Slope Soaring

We fly slope gliders at Callow Bank, just North of Hathersage and about 7 miles South West of Sheffield. We have slopes that are good for Westerly, Southerly and Easterly winds. The parking is generally good and there is a mown landing area for the Westerly slope.

Hathersage has the Pool Cafe that is open most of the time and serves hot and cold snacks and meals as well as providing phone ordering and take away service – very usefull.

Flat Field and Indoor

We have several flat fields suitable for electric and bungee models, and we are always looking for new sites.

Indoor flying throughout the winter for electric models including helicopters is flown in a sports hall in Sheffield – please feel free to contact us for direction and dates.

We produce and distribute “Gladys International”, our bi-monthly news letter, posted to club members and onto the club’s yahoo! forum as well. Articles and features are always eagerly welcomed.

If you wish to join the SSA then plese contact the membership contact us or phone or membership secretary on 0114 2307584 (not after 22:00 !) You can download a membership form here.
